The latest in the ongoing saga of Rob and his marathon training …
Thursday, January 25, 2018, Day 25
Another Tempo day in the books. It was cold when I got up (in the teens). Figured I would wait until the afternoon to run as it was supposed to warm up and be sunny. It did get to the upper 20s but I never saw the sun.
I completed 9 miles in 1:18:00. My track got messed up so it was split in two. My warmup was at a 9:50 pace, the 6-mile tempo was completed at an 8:31 average pace and the cooldown was an 8:49 pace.
Friday, January 26, 2018, Day 26
The temperature was good here today (low 40s) so I laced up and headed out for an easy 6. Feels strange to actually say that.
I completed 6.18 miles in 55:50 for an average pace of 9:02 min/mile.
Saturday, January 27, 2018, Day 27
The plan called for an easy 8. I did exactly 0.0 miles of running.
Really though, I woke up not feeling 100% so I was debating if I should run or not (cold/flu symptoms, not injury). Then I got a call from my friend that lead me to go get our tree stands out of the woods. It was supposed to be the last day the gates were open. The game commission closed them early. Long story short it was a 1.3-mile walk, mostly uphill, then a few hundred yards in the woods, carrying the baby. Take down two tree stands, strap them to my back and carry the ladders (20lbs each unit x 4). Reverse the trip, mostly downhill with an 80 lb load (the wife had the baby now). We all escaped unharmed.
It was not an 8-mile run, but I’ll call it good enough to be cross training.
Sunday, January 28, 2018, Day 28
Still not feeling 100% but didn’t want to miss a day.
Training plan called for an “easy” 8 and that’s what I did. I tossed the little guy in his jogging stroller (it was 45 and sunny so he had a few layers on) and we headed out. I ran, he napped. So good teamwork.
I completed 8.52 miles in 1:20:56 for an average pace of 9:30 min/mile.
Monday, January 29, 2018, Day 29
On tap was an “easy” 6 so I laced up and headed out before recording the podcast with John. It was sunny and mild (40 degrees). Nothing special to report.
I completed 6.18 miles in 54:28 for an average pace of 8:49 min/mile.
Tuesday, January 30, 2018, Day 30
Interval day- it snowed so I had to do them on the treadmill. I got through it, but I did not enjoy it like it did my session last week.
I kept the hard interval sessions between a 6:54-7:24 pace. There was some walking in the rests to cool down as I felt I was overheating.
Total distance was 7.34 miles in 1:04:50.
Wednesday, January 31, 2018, Day 31
We announced on Monday’s show that I’ll be switching from the Pittsburgh Marathon to the Silo District Marathon (in Waco Texas) put on by Chip and Joanna Gains of “Fixer Upper”/Magnolia.
