As I am watching the olympics what amazes me about ALL of the athletes is their flexibility. I have the flexibility of a steel rod. It’s always been like that, so I am not sure if it’s just lack of effort throughout my life, or genetics. Maybe Italians just aren’t built to be flexible? Who knows.
I have been dealing with a back issue for a couple of weeks now. It started on my second run with the Newtons we purchased, so I thought it was probably related to the shoes, but I have not been running in them and the issue is still there. It’s really bad when I wake up in the morning. Stiff as a board when I roll and heave myself out of bed. I can actually feel the knot in my lower back, on the right side, just outside of the spine. I have been Aleve’ing and heat padding, and rolling it all day but it still aches.
It’s probably just another one of those age things that keep popping up on me. It hasn’t been hurting during biking, which makes sense, but I am worried about heading into the hills tomorrow and having it seize up on me, then being stuck 15 miles from the car, so heading to Flatwoods instead where I am no more than a couple of miles from a water stop and bench. It sucks because I need hill work, but I think it’s the right call. It ALWAYS hurts during the run portion of a workout, so I know it has something to do with my ample waistline, so a catch-22. I am sure it is muscular and not structural, so hopefully a session with Travis and maybe some taping will take care of it.
Less than 60 days until Augusta … so the clock is ticking and I need road miles under my belt.
