Falling Behind

I know I have not written in awhile. Let’s chalk it up with being a bit down regarding the job situation (or lack thereof) and not wanting to vent any more on the blog (or at least no more than I already have). Let’s see if I can catch up with the going’s on …

We had our second Training run with the TNT Team; 5 miles at Flatwoods at O-Dark-Thirty. My body just doesn’t like physical activity like that so early. I am very old and very creaky. When doing Tri’s I have the set-up and then the swim to kind of “warm up” before the really strenuous bike and run, but with running only my knees and shins sing loudly and complain like a fat kid in a vegan restaurant. This was the worst it has been in a long time though, and I think it has something to do with the weather we have been having here in Tampa.

So we set out on the run and with the first step my right knee “wobbled”. If you have knee issues you know of what I speak. It’s very unsettling. So I dialed it back a bit and ran very slow (about 12:30 to 13:00 pace) and walked even slower (around 17:00). It seemed to do the trick, though I know I was holding Jenny back (she kept walking BACK to me during the walk splits). I always tell her to keep going, but to be honest it is kinda nice not to be left out there alone walking).

By the time we made the turnaround at 2.5 and got back to the water station at mile 2 my legs started feeling better, and the last two miles I was back to running between 10:30 and 11:00, so I redeemed myself a bit by getting done before my personal goal of 1:15:00 (I was at 1:12:36). I know I can do better than that, but for some reason on group runs I do a lot worse than I do when I am running alone. Might have something to do with the lack of iPod music with the group (my choice). I blare it when I run alone and get lost in the beats of 80’s hair metal … hey … it works!!

We are dialing it back this week also (except for the running) because we have the Crystal River Triathlon #2 this Saturday. It’s been a MONTH since out last race and it has driven me crazy. I barely missed the 2 hour goal at the last one, so really wanting to get out there and shoot for that goal this time. Also, can’t wait to see how Jennifer does this time. She barely missed a finisher placing last time around (by 10:00) and I KNOW she can pull 10:00 out of her race somewhere. It will be so cool if she finishes in the placing. I am pulling for her to do it hard. šŸ™‚

As far as the job front goes, I finally had an interview last week (a position at USF Research) but not sure how it went. Also, there was a job posting that came through last night for, get this, Campaign Coordinator for the Team in Training Suncoast Team. That’s the team I participate in. I sent in an application. That would be a great job to landĀ justĀ becauseĀ it would be great to work for LLS and Team in Training. Fingers crossed.

    Jc, could you warm up a little before the group starts? I know it is early but maybe an extra 5-10 minites could help. Just as an example, when i do a 5k race(i hate 5ks), i have to warm up for about 2 miles before i can start or i never get a good stride going.
    Can't wait to see how you and Jenny do at CR#2. what a great holiday weekend it will be.
    Keeping fingers x'd on the job front for you. How cool that you happened upon the tnt job? Could this be a sign?

    I should do that KC … you're right … but my running as it stands IS the warm up LOL. I will try some light jogging for five minutes prior to starting the run and see if that helps.
