For those of you that have been following this blog for awhile you know that I trained with Team in Training for St. Anthony’s Triathlon in May. While I enjoyed the experience and learned a lot, I wasn’t happy with the coaching we received, and ended up doing most of it on my own with Jenny. So, when we started looking at doing the Wine and Dine, then found out TNT was also part of this, it took some thinking before deciding to do the fundraising and team thing again, but the reason for the fundraising outweighs the rest of it, so I decided to give it another shot, figuring if the same thing happened I can always just train solo again.
Saturday was our first team run (we had a meet and greet the week before but wasn’t a true training). A planned 4 mile run at Flatwoods Park (familiar territory … good omen) meeting at 6:30 AM (meaning I have to get up at 5:00 and out the door by 5:30 to meet Jenny, then to the park.
When we pulled up (about 5 minutes late) I was HAPPY to see that our coach, Teresa, had already started. Part of the problem I had with the last coach was that he wouldn’t start on time when certain people were running late, but for others he would start and leave people behind. Teresa, and this team as a whole, as shown already to be 100 times better than the last experience we had. She is knowledgeable, she has assistants that are both experienced AND knowledgeable, and as a whole they are a fun group to be around. I had noticed that I was the only guy on the team (one showed at the meet and greet but was not at the first run) so you never know how that will go, but it wasn’t uncomfortable at all, and both Jenny and I felt included and encouraged (Teresa was actually timing us as we came to the finish … what a concept). I was even approached by the Brandon Team Captain, April, to join them on training runs as well, and by the Triathlon Team Captain Peter about training with his team if we need swim or bike intervals.
So this is boding well. I am looking forward to the training days. Here are a few pictures of the day (Teresa … please feel free to share with the team … just send them the blog address):
